Captain America is no doubt one of my favorite characters of the Marvel Universe and this preference is demonstrated by the countless statues devoted to the hero included in the Marvel Statues Museum. The market offers a lot of awesome pieces, both released from the most famous (licensed) Companies and realized by private customers, showing the supersoldier in different scales, in static and dynamic poses, with his classic Comics' suit or some more modern and original design. Among the many 1:4 scale statues in a museum pose, I've always thought that the appeal of the old Sideshow Premium Format was simply unrivalled; and yet, after such a long time, the statue presented in this review was able to demolish this certainty and to become (since the beginning) one of my favorite pieces in the whole collection! Sculpted by AviAY and released in 2017, the Captain America by Alpha3 was just realized as a kit, with a very limited edition size of 30 samples worldwide. Subsequently, the same statue was released in a special edition, named "Stealth", fully painted in a captivating black color, with an ES of 10 pieces only. I was so impressed by the sculpt of this Cap that I acquired both of them and, after a long time, I wanted the kit painted by Fabio Funghini, a friend and talented professional working here in Rome. Fabio did a great job, exactly using the color tones I required both on suit and on many decorative elements of the figure. The pose is quite similar to the old PF: the hero stays erect in a classic and dignified position, with the shield in good evidence and the right leg slightly bent, resting on a rocky terrain enriched with a lot of metallic ruins. The physique is nothing short of statuary: very broad shoulders, large pectorals, hyperdefined abdominals and some impressive muscle bands on legs, which probably do not fully respect an essay of anatomy, but provide the figure with an incredible sense of power and pride, worthy of the classic traits of the Comics' American supersoldier. Two large and thick leather straps encircle the hero's shoulders: they are connected on the back and allow, on chest, the hooking (through metallic rings) of two large grenades, sculpted in a masterful way. The suit is enriched by a large waist belt with a metal buckle and a lot of military pockets, two thick elbow pads and two circular leather reinforcements on shoulders, with the typical stars of the character's "Ultimate" version in good evidence. The attention paid to any detail is really amazing! Note the long gloves, equipped with strips and small buttons on forearms, where the seams between the various leather patches are clearly visible, and the original, amazing design of boots, which exhibit a large, reinforcement-band on calf, long laces, a decorative star on the inner part and like a mix between a military and hiking footwear. The figure is fully texturized, a feature emphasized to perfection by the excellent coloring made by Fabio on trunk, legs arms and all the very realistic details of leather parts. The same feature is even more evident on the Stealth statue, where the total-black suit points out the impressive quality of the sculpt and the many, different textures used on the figure. The left arm of the hero holds up the classic circular shield that I wanted painted with soft nuances and slight signs of wear on the edge. On the contrary, the right arm is simply bent downwards and may be displayed in three different ways, thanks to the add-ons offered with the kit: a simple closed fist, a hand holding the silvery head of Ultron and one sustaining a bruised helmet of Iron Man. The base is simple, rather heavy and gives a great stability to the piece; it depicts a rocky terrain embellished with large stones on the back side and many metallic ruins of different shape. In my opinion, the head is a small masterpiece and brings to mind very well the somatic traits of Steve Rogers as drawn by the timeless masters of Marvel Comics (Kirby, Buscema, Romita). The mask perfectly wraps the character's head under the chin, with two different textures on neck and face and thickened edges placed everywhere which improve the aesthetic impact of the whole; a very well-proportioned "A" stands out on the hero's forehead, as well as the two classic, white winglets (quite fragile and removable) placed on the temples. In concusion, I believe this statue is a perfect depiction of Captain America, exuding a great sense of pride and power, and also a "true" collectible, due to the top quality of the sculpt, the opulence of textures and details and also the very limited edition size. In other words, one of those pieces that, once entered the collection, can hardly get out of it!
